The General Ability section comprises of Verbal Ability and Numerical Ability. The GATE Life Sciences[XL] Exam, is a computer-based online exam. The duration of the exam is 3 hours. The exam will be based on multiple-choice questions and a Numerical Answer Test comprising of 65 questions with a total of 100 marks divided into 1 mark and 2 mark questions.
Out of the 65 questions asked in the exam, 10 questions(5 questions each of 1 mark and 2 marks) will be based on General Aptitude Questions comprising of 15 marks, 15 questions(5 questions of 1 mark each and 10 questions of 2 mark each) will be based on Chemistry comprising of 25 marks and 20 questions(10 marks each of 1 mark and 2 mark) will be based on Section Q-U[any two] comprising of 30 marks. There will be a negative marking of 1/3 rd marks for every 1 mark question and 2/3rd marks for every 2 mark questions.
